2025 Poc Fada Championship

ree

On Saturday, October 18th, 2025, the Fox River Hurling Club held its annual

Fada Championship at Pierce Park in Appleton, WI. We couldn't have asked for better weather, with temperatures reaching the mid-70s—perfect conditions for our most unique event of the year!

What is Poc Fada?

"Poc Fada" means "long puck" in Irish, an ancient Gaelic tradition where participants use a hurley to hit a sliotar as far as possible over a 5-kilometer course. Think of it as golf, but with traditional Irish flair! This year's championship utilized Pierce Park's frisbee golf course, creating a challenging and exciting competition.

A Course Like No Other

The course proved to be a true test of skill and strategy, with hills, trees, buildings, and autumn leaves creating obstacles at every turn. Navigation was difficult at times, forcing competitors to make strategic decisions—sometimes with a prayer—which made the competition that much more thrilling.

The Competition

Nine Fox River Hurling team members participated, including both seasoned veterans and first-timers. The event came down to a dramatic overtime match between our newly minted club secretary, Chris Reuss, and Eric "Hellboy" Armstrong.

Top Finishers:

1st Place: Chris Reuss (29 Points)

2nd Place: Eric Armstrong (29 Points)

3rd Place: Lydia Leitermann (30 Points)

Congratulations to Chris on his hard-fought victory, and to all our participants for keeping this ancient Irish tradition alive in Wisconsin!

Celebrating Together

We capped off the event with a tailgate in the parking lot, featuring brats, burgers, and side dishes. It was the perfect opportunity to build camaraderie, share stories from the course, and engage in great conversation—proving once again that the Fox River Hurling Club is as much about community as it is about competition.
